SPARKS 2026 – Reflect, Renew, Reimagine

SPARKS 2026 started with our first session in collaboration with SUSS’s School of Social Work and Social Development on 28 August 2026. We had two distinguished leaders, Mr. Laurence Lien and Prof Leslie Chew, S.C., to share their thoughts and experiences. Ms Ang Bee Lian moderated the Q&A session.
In the subsequent three sessions, participants learnt and were inspired by Ms Elysa Chen, Dr Sng Hock Lin, Dr Chen Shiling, Mr Lee Seng Meng, Mr Andy Seet, Mr Tan Kwang Cheak and Ms Zahara Mahmood.
Participants also went on learning journeys to MUIS and Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors.

The participants will next go on a learning journey in Taiwan in February 2027.

SPARKS 2025 – Compass, Courage, Commitment

SPARKS 2025 kicked off on 25 July 2025, with our keynote speaker, Prof. Tommy Koh, who shared his invaluable insights and experiences, in particular about moral courage. There was also a panel discussion with Mr Christian Chao, Mr Lee Seng Meng, Ms Esther Lim Li Ping, Mr Mohd Fareez Bin Mohd Fahmy and Prof Seng Boon Kheng, moderated by A/Prof Vincent Ng. The session was in collaboration with SUSS.
We had Mr Tan Kwang Cheak, Mr Martin Tan, Mr Kenny Tan, Mr Koh Seng Choon and Ms Karen Wong in other sessions, where they shared about their own leadership journeys.
Participants also visited Open Gov and TikTok HQ to gain insights to technology and innovation.

Video highlights of the Taiwan programme

The Taiwan learning journey was from 24 to 28 November 2025. Participants learnt about values-based leadership and social economics. They gained insights into both social and private enterprises that were driven by values and community issues. Throughout the week, participants were on a journey of inspiration, discovery and transformation, and ended as a closely knit group of friends.

Video highlights of SPARKS 2024

SPARKS returned after a hiatus in 2024. This edition experimented with just the Taiwan programme. It started with an induction and bonding session held in the mountains of Jin Gua Shi (金瓜石), where participants got to know each other as well as themselves.
Over the next few days, participants dived into their learning journey with topics and ideas from values based leadership, entrepreneurship driven by mission instead of profits, social economics.
Participants discovered more about each other, themselves and their values, their own mission and their romanticism. Their openness to share and encouraged each other helped in their peer learning.

SPARKS 2020

SPARKS 2020 was marked by challenges from COVID-19. Taiwan’s programme was cancelled but it was made up by a comprehensive local programme. We had Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, Ms Chan Heng Chee, Sister Gerard Fernandez, Ms Lim Suu Kuan, Mr Lim Teck Yin, Dr Sng Hock Lin, Ms Teo Chew Hoon, Ms Kemmy Tan and Mr Richard Tan to share their personal stories and experiences, to inspire and encourage the participants.
After circuit breaker, we managed to go on a learning journey to P. Ubin to learn about NParks conservation efforts and challenges on the island.

SPARKS 2019

SPARKS 2019 participants emabarked on their transformative journey through learning and reflecting from a panel of speakers: Prof. Tommy Koh, Dr Vincent Ng, Ms Lim Soo Ping, Ms Lim Suu Kuan, Ms Yeoh Chee Yan, Mr Chan Whee Peng, Ms Zahara Mahmood, Mr Richard Tan, Mr Benedict Cheong, Ms Long Chey May and Mr Stanley Fong.
Fo local learning journeys, participants went to DBS Bank and P. Ubin.
The participants also went to Taiwan to learn about and be inspired by ground-up initiatives, social enterprises and businesses that are driven by their sense of social mission and based on values and determination.

SPARKS 2018

SPARKS 2018, also known as Project Inchoate, targeted younger social service professionals, aim at developing influential trans-disciplinary leaders to bring the people sector to greater heights.
Participants learnt about innovation, sustainability and transformation through sharing from and learning journeys to DBS Bank, Wildlife Reserves Singapore, National Library Board, Changi General Hospital and SATS.
The participants were the first batch to go to Taiwan to learn about and be inspired by community agencies, ground-up initiatives, social enterprises and businesses that are driven by a sense of social mission and determination.

SPARKS 2017

SPARKS 2017 was the first edition. Supported by MSF, SUSS, SSI, AMKFSC Community Services Ltd, Care Corner Singapore and Viriya Community Services, the programme aimed to develop Social Service leaders to be future-ready, adopt trans-disciplinary approaches, and build trust and networks to collaborate to build a vibrant people sector.
Participants were deeply influenced and learnt from a panel of speakers, Ms Ang Bee Lian, Mr Chua Chin Kiat, Mr Hsieh Tsun-yan, Mr Benedict Cheong, Ms Lim Soo Hoon, Dr Cheong Koon Hean, Ms Lim Suu Kuan and Dr Christopher Cheok
The participants went on learning journeys to Kg Admiralty, Punggol Discovery Cube and Singapore Prisons Service.
